Natural Gas Rises Sharply On Cold Weather

Natural gas prices notch their biggest one-day gain since Oct. 29, ending the session 4.8% higher at $2.4410/mmBtu as weather forecasters predict much colder temperatures starting around the middle of the month that could sharply lift gas-fired demand for heating of homes and businesses. Traders say the current snowy weather in New York and other regions is also encouraging buying of the commodity despite expectations that this week's EIA storage report due Thursday may bearishly show a rather small decline in storage due to strong production.
