Husky Energy cuts 2020-21 capex by combined C$500 million, boosts output guidance
Husky Energy on Monday reduced its capital expenditure program for the next two years by a combined C$500 million ($375.98 million) while increasing its annual upstream production guidance.
The Calgary, Alberta-based company's spending program for 2020 will range from C$3.2 billion to C$3.4 billion, representing a C$100 million decrease, according to a Monday statement. Husky also plans to reduce its 2021 spending by C$400 million.
The company's 2020 capital spending will be focused on advancing its Lloyd thermal project portfolio in Saskatchewan, completing its Liuhua 29-1 natural gas field off the coast of China and on the construction of its West White Rose oil drilling project off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The capital guidance excludes C$450 million to C$525 million related to rebuilding the Superior refinery after a 2018 explosion and fire. Husky expects the rebuild to be mostly covered by insurance, with full operations scheduled to resume by the end of 2021.
