BASF eyes Q4 close for construction chems sale
BASF is looking to achieve contract close on the sale of its construction chemicals business by the end of the fourth quarter this year, despite the bearish macroeconomic conditions, the CEO of the Germany-headquartered chemicals producer said on Thursday.
The company has put the unit, along with its pigments business, on the sales block as it moves to shed non-core operations.
Prospective buyers are currently evaluating the business, and a deal is expected to be agreed this year despite the odds of an economic rally in the second half of the year diminishing.
“Construction chemicals is in the due diligence phase… [interest] allows us to be very positive with a view on the fourth quarter, where there will be a contract closing,” said BASF's CEO Martin Brudermuller.
“We don’t think in the situation that we have today that it will have an effect on the purchasing price.”
The company expects substantial cash flows from the pigments and construction chemicals unit sales in 2020, Brudermuller said.
The initial public offering (IPO) of the company's Wintershall Dea oil and gas joint venture is still expected in the second half of 2020, pending certain approvals, he added.
